At the salon, does your hairdresser or an assistant shampoo your hair?

Usually all the salons I've been to, usually don't have a shampoo girl. The stylist/hairdresser should be able to do all of this.At the salon, does your hairdresser or an assistant shampoo your hair?
Usually there is a shampoo girl. Tipping depends on what she does. When i highlight my hair i get it washed twice and then rinsed once. In that case i would say $7. For a haircut where they only wash once i would tip $3-$4.
